The skid driving course advanced module: next-level driver training.

Vehicle Control

For drivers who have taken the introductory course in skid and brake control and have already mastered a good number of basic techniques for safe driving. The vehicle control course builds on the skid driving course and focuses on perfecting vehicle control.

Your participation in this advanced course contributes greatly to road safety and the safety of yourself and the passengers in your car. This means the programme includes a lot of practical vehicle control. You’ll practice skid control in bends, hard braking in difficult and split-ground situations, aquaplaning and steering wheel handling. In this advanced driver training course, attention is also paid to the causes of oversteering and understeering. At the JESCO training site, you will learn how to solve this in practice.

This next-level driver training course is the perfect follow-up to your basic training in skid and brake control. Ideally, you should take the vehicle control course within three months after your first skid driving course.

Safe driving is a skill that needs to be trained and maintained. It’s the only way to ensure you react automatically and with the right reflexes to potentially dangerous situations on the road. Therefore, it’s important not to leave too much time between taking your skid driving course and participating in the vehicle control training course. Want to register without delay? That’s more like it!

Your advanced course at a glance

Where do we expect you?

You are expected at the specially equipped JESCO Auto Training Site located on the A12 Antwerp-Brussels at Boom. We designed the JESCO training site for the advanced vehicle control course in such a way that advanced drivers can train to perfect their vehicle control. We place soft obstacles on the course so that you can practise improving skid control in bends in complete safety. The training circuit has strips with different surfaces. They are used to teach you to brake in a controlled way in various situations. The JESCO approach focuses on experience-based training. As a result, your vehicle control technique will improve at a rapid pace.

What time do we expect you?

We expect you at 8:45 for a packed day of practical exercises. At lunchtime we take a break for a delicious meal, which is included in the price. We finish around 16:45.

What can you expect?

Eyeopeners

We show you real-life examples and explain oversteering and understeering. We examine aquaplaning in more detail and you are introduced to the four different forms of slippery conditions caused by water. Of course, you’ll get plenty of opportunities to experience in practice what this could involve in everyday traffic. You’ll discover what these road hazards feel like and this will help you control your emotions better in real-life problematic situations.

Hands-on training

Your vehicle control will only become an automatic reaction with a lot of practice. So prepare yourself for a great deal of driver training, because it will noticeably improve your vehicle control in extreme braking situations. We also present you with a mixed surface so that you know what to do in a ‘split-ground’ situation. Furthermore, we simulate a slippery road surface, so that you also learn how to effectively react in the case of aquaplaning. The JESCO fleet is equipped with various types of modern Mercedes vehicles, fitted with all the modern technological driving aids. We explain exactly what they do and how they help you drive safely.

Your team

You’ll have already met the JESCO personal coaches during your skid driving course. They’ll be thrilled to see that you share their passion of working together on road safety by improving your driving skills. They are ready and waiting, with a great deal to share with you, show you and above all, let you experience. They’ll help you reach the next level in vehicle control – and as always, constructively and with a smile.

When I started the JESCO skid course (for the fun and the thrill!), I could not have guessed that the experience would eventually save my life! What had particularly stuck with me was the tip: “don’t focus on the approaching danger, but look for a way out.”

Years later, I was in a traffic jam on a motorway and saw a truck approaching way too fast in my rear-view mirror. There was no way the driver would still be able to brake. Remembering “find a way out”, I quickly started my car to flee onto the hard shoulder… That truck still drove into me at the trunk and rear door, but at least I was not squashed between the truck in front of me and the oncoming ten-tonne truck.
I am very grateful to JESCO for furthering my understanding of traffic situations and those few simple but potentially life-saving tips. I would therefore advise every driver to take the JESCO course.

Last weekend, I attended the skid and brake control course at Jesco. What an experience! It was not only great learning, but also super fun! We got lots of practice opportunities and good tips and tricks that helped us in our next attempt. You also drive different types of cars (manual, automatic, normal tyres, slicks…) to gain as much experience as possible. I definitely feel that I can now drive more safely in traffic, starting with a correct seating position, which was of course addressed. Instructor Glenn shared his knowledge and experience and encouraged us to push our limits on the track, always with a smile! He himself also gave an occasional demo, which – thanks to the accompanying explanations – you also learn from. In short, it was a great experience! If I get the chance, I will definitely come back! 😉

It was a great return moment this morning. The practice was teachable moment with very friendly and professional guidance from experienced instructors, with before and after summing up the various factors affecting these tasks and neutralising them. There were interactive tasks that definitely made a me understand how important braking, keeping distance, not being distracted,… could be. Closing with a very interesting group discussion from which I definitely learnt. Here I will definitely come back!

Wonderful experience: in the skid section, you gain important knowledge on how to react in emergency situations and combined with the commentary drive, you also gain insight into your own wrong driving habits. It is a very cool experience and it can literally save lives!
